2-day seminar on ‘Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Social Justice’ begins at KU

Srinagar, Dec 16: A two-day seminar titled “Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Social Justice” began at the University of Kashmir on Saturday.

The national-level seminar, organised by Shah-I-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies in collaboration with the J&K Muslim Waqf Board, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi.

In his presidential address, Prof Andrabi while deliberating upon various aspects of social justice as enshrined in Islam, said: “In Islam, the concept of rights is based on justice and justice is based upon truth and it is these principles for which our Prophet (SAW) always strived for.”

Prof Andrabi said that the Prophet (SAW) came with the universal message of peace and brotherhood and his life and teachings are an embodiment of a just social system which is as relevant today as was in the past, and shall always remain so. He also laid emphasis on the concept of justice in Islam.

Dean Research, Prof Zaffar A Reshi said: “There were gross inequalities prevalent before the coming of
the Prophet (SAW) and once the Prophet (SAW) came with the noble message of Islam, people started finding answers to their problems in the teachings of Islam.”  

Prof Reshi added: “We need to transform ourselves, especially vis-a-vis our conduct in our daily lives, in light of teachings of the holy Qur’an and this should be the main objective of holding such seminars and deliberations.”

Prof Ishtiyaque Danish, former Director at Institute of Islamic Studies, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi delivered the keynote address while Prof Sayyid Muhammad Tayyib Kamili, Principal, Jamia Madinat-ul-Uloom Srinagar and Fayaz Ahmad Lone, chief executive, J&K Muslim Waqf Board also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Prof Abdul Rashid Bhat, Director Shah-I-Hamadan Institute of Islamic Studies welcomed the participants while Prof Manzoor Bhat conducted proceedings of the seminar.
