Pulwama: Tral sub division in South Kashmir has been facing unscheduled long power cuts from last couple of weeks irking people of more than hundred villages of this sub district.

People while talking to INS said that unscheduled power cuts have grown severe for the past few weeks, giving tough time to people, especially to the students who are not able to study well due to power scarcity.

For past many weeks locals from different areas have informed that Power Development Department (PDD) is resorting to unscheduled cuts due to which people are suffering from immense hardships.

They said that despite repeated requests to concerned officials, the situation has not improved so far. “PDD in Tral does not follow any power curtailment schedule and resort to power cuts always as per their wishes,” said a group of residents from Gulabbagh area.

“We are paying electricity bills on time, despite that PDD has failed to ensure adequate power supply in the sub division,” said Mushtaq Ahmad.

Most affected areas are Tral , Nahir, Khasipora , Kangloora , Chatrogam , Diver , Monghama,  Batagund, Nagbal , Mandoora , Bhatnoor, Naibugh, Wanibathoo, Panner , Saimoh , Rathsuna , Amirabad, Gamraj, Dobhiwan and almost all other places.

Meanwhile, people of far flung area Dangerpora Bhatnoor in Tral have blamed that authorities failed to provide new transformer in the area as the existing transformer is not sufficient for them. They also said that dangling wires and dilapidated poles should also be restored in the area as it poses threat to the people there.

When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer PDD, Tral, Mohammad Maqbool Ahangar, said that “we are providing 18 hours power supply to the metered areas and 15 hours to non-metered areas but sometimes power cuts happen from main divisions which is not in our control, adding that department is going to start big power project soon to mitigate the problems of people here.

When asked about transformer issue in Dangerpora area of Bhatnoor village, he said that problems there will be resolved soon.
