Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday strongly condemned restrictions in downtown Srinagar, saying these tactics by the government reflect its “dictatorial approach towards the people of Kashmir.”
“The old city is targeted every time any incident happens anywhere in Kashmir,” a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.
“By raising the bogey of maintaining law and order, the whole population of the Old City is repeatedly made hostage in their own homes by imposing curfews.”
The Spokesman said the restrictions in Old City create immense trouble for the people including students and patients of the area and “was part of the policy of government’s revenge against these people.”
He said that heavy deployment of forces around central Jamia Masjid on Fridays was a major cause of concern for the people in the area and leads to creation of tension. He said that authorities should withdraw the forces from there.
“The aggressive tactics by the government, curfew, restrictions, and atrocities can’t suppress the people for raising their voice of justice and demands of basic political right.”
