Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday demanded immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners even as it accused PDP-led government of using “chemical weapons” and pellets against the people for “remaining in power”.
In a statement issued here, the conglomerate blamed PDP-led administration for unnecessarily prolonging their detention period.
“PDP is playing deceitful politics. Hypocrisy and treachery is the trait of PDP,” a spokesman of the amalgam said.
The Hurriyat Conference said that the PDP party was the creation of “agencies and its rhetoric for battle of ideas stand exposed.” “They should realize this fact that pellets, bullets and Safety Act now stand sign and symbolic for their treacherous politics.”
The spokesman said that since the inception of PDP, they are following dictates from “Nagpur (RSS headquarter) and there seems no let-up in pellets and bullets,” the spokesman said, adding that though pellet gun and “chemical weapons are specifically used against wild animals, however PDP in order to remain in power corridors and appease their masters, used these weapons against innocent and unarmed civilians.”
The Hurriyat Conference expressed its deep concern over the deteriorating condition of prisoners, saying they are being subjected to political vendetta and no proper medical treatment is provided to ailing detainees.

The amalgam said that during people’s uprising in 2016, state authorities arrested thousands while as PSA was slapped against six hundred. “More than 300 activists are still languishing in different detention centres and police lockups,” the spokesman said.
The Hurriyat Conference said that people bailed out by the courts are not being released. “On one or the other pretext their detention period is prolonged and those bailed out by judiciary are rearrested by police and detained again on fictitious charges and PSA slapped on them.”
Appealing international organizations including United Nations Human Rights Commission, Asia watch and Amnesty International for their cognizance, the amalgam urged them to take notice of the inhuman and hostile treatment meted out to detainees lodged in different jails and “take serious notice about indiscriminate use of infamous Public Safety Act against innocent Kashmiri prisoners.”
