Baramulla: Indian Red Cross Society, J&K state branch and District Red Cross Committee, Baramulla conducted a Mock & Emergency Drill to combat an earthquake along with rescue operation procedure on Saturday.
30 Red Cross Volunteers from different areas of the district Baramulla participated in this training. The activity was carried out under the leadership of M.S Rather, Honorary General Secretary, IRCS, J&K State Branch. The whole operation was supported by Dr. Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Red Cross Committe, Barmulla, Farooq Ahmad Baba, ADC Baramulla and Irfan Bahadur, Tehsildar Baramulla HQ.
As soon as the District Red Cross Team was alerted at 11:20 AM, the Social & Emergency Response Volunteers proceeded immediately to the disaster site. The State Red Cross Branch was also alerted and the team arrived in least possible time. The Volunteers were divided into teams and the rescue team took up necessary rescue operations and evacuated the victims. The victims were further handed over the First Aid Team who provided them the First Aid and further referred them to hospital as per priority. The Ambulance Team shifted all the victims to the hospital. On the side lines the Crowd Management Team including the officials from the J&K Police Department was deployed to manage the overcrowding and chances of breaking of a riot.
The objectives of the Mock Drill were to a) Establish a method of systematic, safe and orderly evacuation b) Reduce the anxiety and fear of the volunteers while handling victims in event of a disaster c) Providing First Aid to victims on-site and shifting them to hospital in least possible time d) Crowd Management during disasters and e) Strengthen the Emergency Response Mechanism of Red Cross Volunteers of the district.
