Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Sunday demanded that there should be no deployment of government forces in downtown Srinagar including Nowhatta, housing historic Jamia Majid, on Fridays.
“The huge presence in downtown on every Friday creates an atmosphere of terror and the Hurriyat has been time and again demanding that there should be no deployment of forces in downtown areas on Fridays but the government continues to ignore it,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference said in a statement issued here.
The amalgam attributed the pumping of hundreds of pellets into body of Zahid Manzoor Mir of Nowshehra Zonimar to heavy presence of government forces across the downtown on every Friday.
A Hurriyat Conference delegation visited SMHS hospital to inquire about the condition of Zahid and were told that the class 11 student was on way back to his home after attending his examination and he was fired with full burst of pellets that damaged his vital organs, the spokesman said, adding, “Doctors have removed Zahid’s kidney and his condition continues to be critical.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman also denounced the authorities’ for placing the chairman of the amalgam Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention.
“The move reflects frustration on part of the authorities. Caging Mirwaiz frequently is aimed at barring him from carrying out his social, political and religious duties.”
