Srinagar: Opposition National Conference on Monday castigated the PDP-BJP governments for its “colossal” failure in providing basic necessities to people of the state.
“It’s such a shame that this government has done little to nothing in improving power generation capabilities of the state. The deplorable electricity scenario has thrown life out of gear in Kashmir, with students and business community the worst hit. Mehbooba Mufti whose father late Mufti Mohammad Syeed promised free electricity to people before coming to power owes a lot of answers,” NC General Secretary and MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar said after an extensive tour to city areas in Srinagar.
“Mehbooba Mufti had on record said that the PDP can spent Rs 10,000 Crore for ensuring 24 hour power supply to the valley. I ask her what happened to her promise,” the General Secretary said adding, “The business community and the students have been worst victims of this power crisis and are facing tremendous problems. The situation is so grim that it is forcing many business establishments to shut down their operations early in the evening.”
He said that the situation has gone from bad to worse in Srinagar with the water supply too playing hide and seek. “PHE Department is resorting to water cuts for hours together making life miserable for people in city and adjoining areas. The situation in rural areas can only be imagined. Now will the government count this as achievement too? So rather than issuing rhetoric statements, the government must work on ground and deliver results which presently is not happening.”
