Srinagar: A court in Handwara has sentenced three brothers to seven years in jail for attempt to murder fifteen years ago.
Additional Sessions Judge Handwara convicted and sentenced the brothers— Bilal Ahmad Lone, Abdul Majid Lone and Farooq Ahmad Lone sons of Mohammad Maqbool Lone of Chedpow Villgam village in north Kashmir district after a prolonged trial.
The incident came to light when the victim lodged a report at the Villgam police station in 2002 following which FIR (no. 37/3002) based on which a case was registered against trio.
Subsequently, the trio was arrested and a case was instituted before the court of the Additional Sessions Judge Handwara. After a prolonged trial, the accused were convicted for the offence of attempt to murder and sentenced by the judge Tasleem Arif. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convicts and in case of default, they shall have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment. The prosecution was represented by advocate Ahrar Ahmad Dar who had argued that the accused had committed a heinous offence by attempting to murder of an innocent.
