Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti sounded a bit confused as she took to twitter on braid chopping which has seen a spike in last few weeks in Kashmir Valley.
On one hand, the Chief Minister vowed to find the “motives” behind the braid-chopping attacks and on the other hand she claimed that such incidents were aimed at creating mass hysteria and undermining the dignity of the women in the state.
“Braid chopping incidents are attempts to create mass hysteria and undermine the dignity of the women in the state,” Mehbooba said in her tweet.
After some time, she followed it by stating: “Government will ensure steps are taken to find the motives behind these attacks.”
Earlier also, Mehbooba Mufti assured stern action against the culprits and publically avowed to get to the root of the incident and unmask those behind such incidents.
Last month, the Chief Minister asked the DGP to constitute a special team to “identify and bring to justice” the persons behind the mysterious incidents in Kulgam and other places in the state.
She asked the DGP to speed up the probe in such cases which have caused panic among young girls and their parents.
Subsequently, SITs and round the clock helplines were set up in every district to probe the incidents. Police has also announced a reward of Rs 6 lakh to anybody who can give leads on the braid choppers.
While police has remained tight lipped so far about motives and those bid such incidents, it has threatened legal action against those spreading braid-chopping rumours. in fact, a few rumormongers have been arrested.
