Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has allowed state’s under-23 cricket team to play in the CK Nayudu tournament.
Last week, a match between J&K and Goa had to be stopped in 13th over of the opening day by orders of the High Court.
“Meanwhile impugned order is modified to the extent that the team of J&K would be permitted to participate in the cricket tournament,” ordered Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmad and Justice Alok Aradhe while hearing an appeal filed by the BCCI. The Court also directed rescheduling of match which was cancelled within the tournament period.

Earlier, the court had barred the JKCA from picking the under-23 team after one player Hashim Saleem filed a plea alleging discrepancy in selection. Saleem had alleged that a selector, Mansoor Ahmad, had picked his son Moomin Mansoor in the team. At the same time, some non-deserving players had also made it to the side, he had pleaded.
The court observed that if one person has been selected wrongly, then Hashim could have prayed for restraining him from playing in the tournament and not the entire team.
“Because of the impugned order, the entire scheduled of CK. Naydu Tournament (under 23) has been disturbed on account of matches involving team sponsored by J&K Cricket Association being stalled; notwithstanding the fact that the son of one of the (chief selector) against whom (Hashim) has alleged his grievance is not part of playing 11 though he is a part of the squad. (Hashim) appears to have misled the single judge and has disturbed holding of the entire tournament,” said Prof. Ratnakar Shetty General Manager—Admin & Game Development, Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI).
Shetty said that because of the court’s order, the team selected and sponsored by the J&K Cricket Association has been debarred from participating in the tournament which was causing great loss to the cricketing activity of J&K and various players
