Srinagar: On World Tourism day unemployed tourism graduates protested on Wednesday here, demanding implementation of Rehbar e Seyahat scheme .
The protest was organised by All Jammu and Kashmir Unemployed Tourism Professional Association ( JKUTPA).
Protesting graduates demanded the implementation of Rehbar-e- Seyahat in the tourism department on pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem, Rehbar-e-Zirat and Rehbar-e- Khel launched in the education, agriculture and sports department respectively.
Majid Majaz one of the members of the association told INS that the said scheme was already approved in 2008 by the PDP- Congress alliance but due to the Amarnath land row the scheme was not implemented.
“Most of us have completed Masters degree from various Universities and some even have doctorate degrees in tourism studies, but due to non implementation of the scheme, we are jobless and many among us are on the verge of upper age limit criteria set for government jobs,”he said.
Another protester who identified himself as Rayees Ahmad Bhat said that ‘there is a need of tourism professionals who can cater to the emerging trends in the industry’
“It is very unfortunate that not even a single job for tourism professionals has advertised by the department from the past so many years,” Bhat said.
“We have approached the concerned department for devising a recruitment policy in our favor but our pleas have been neglected and ignored,”Rayees said.
