Srinagar: Opposition National Conference on Wednesday termed as “unfortunate” the “conspicuous omission of J&K centric peace initiatives” in the political resolution passed recently at ruling BJP National Executive meeting in New Delhi.
Reiterating that dialogue was the only way forward to address political issues of Jammu and Kashmir, JKNC Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said, “It was surprising to see no mention of all the positive talks on J&K by PM Narendra Modi and the Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the resolution. A week back Home Minister had said ‘initiative has begun’ and the Centre is ‘moving forward’. We were looking forward for the BJP to endorse this and that the said executive meeting would unanimously endorse the PMs message on Aug 15 from the ramparts of Red Fort. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.”
Reacting to BJPs political resolution, Mehdi said: “Why has the party gone silent on the assurances made by the PM himself?”
It seems now that what the Prime Minister said was just rhetoric and there was no conviction, he said. “The resolution clearly points towards BJPs aggressive approach in handling the State and its affairs. This, to say the least, is a complete U-turn on J&K.”
“There is little to no mention of five Cs, compassion, communication, co-existence, confidence-building and consistency that the Home Minister talked about in the said political resolution. This inevitably will add to PDP-BJP government’s continuous failure in governing the state and will go a long way in increasing alienation among the people of the state. The chaos that we see around now is in fact a physical manifestation of such tactics employed by BJP and its ally PDP in the state,” he said.
The spokesperson said every single promise made by PDP and BJP in its ‘Agenda of the Alliance’ has been compromised with to ensure that both parties continue to enjoy power, come what may.
“BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav on his recent visit to Srinagar was very forthcoming on dialogue. He even went to the extent of offering an unconditional dialogue with all stakeholders. This resolution is entirely opposite to what the BJP leaders have been saying lately on Kashmir and has therefore reinforced BJPs hardened stance on Jammu & Kashmir where they continue look at the state from the prism of security,” he added.
“PDP on the other hand continue to maintain shameful silence as she has given away all just demands and rights of the State to BJP in order to remain in power. Why is Mehbooba Mufti sitting in the CM’s chair when all her promises to people continue to be rejected in such manner by her own alliance partner?” Mehdi added.
He reiterated that National Conference will continue to espouse the path of dialogue and reconciliation wherein all the stakeholders need to sit together and try to evolve a consensus which would guarantee the rights and dignity to the people of J&K.
