Srinagar: The state government on Wednesday said that there was no ban on the Muharram processions in Kashmir.
Reacting to a report, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan, said it has been already made clear at various levels that all the traditional Muharram processions would be allowed “as per the past practice” for which requisite arrangements have already been made by the administration.
He said that the arrangements for Muharram were reviewed at the highest level in the government wherein elaborate plan was prepared to ensure proper arrangements with regard to essential supplies including drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, fire services, street lighting, ration, traffic management, fire wood and security in and around the areas inhabited by the Shia population.
