Srinagar: Following announcement of schedule by the Election Commission of India for Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls from January, the government directed its administrative Secretaries, the Divisional Commissioners and the Deputy Commissioners to strictly comply with the instructions issued by the poll body.
The revision process involves a number of pre-determined activities to be completed within pre-fixed time lines.
As such, for the revision of rolls, the commission expects enthusiastic participation of the public and full involvement and cooperation of political parties, rural and urban local bodies, NGOs, etc.
For completion of the “massive exercise”, the participation of the entire election machinery from CEO, DEOs, EROs, AEROs and supervisors to BLOs is required.
During the period of revision of Electoral Rolls in the State, the ECI has instructed to government to ensure adequate staff; ban on transfers of officers and staff engaged with revision of roll; posting of substitute officers; restriction on deployment of certain officials and adequate fund.
