Srinagar: Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Friday decided to continue strike against the ongoing questioning of its president Mian Abdul Qayoom by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a case registered at the behest of government of India.
A spokesman of the lawyers’ body said that a general body meeting was held at J&K High Court Srinagar to discuss the continuous questioning and “harassment” of Qayoom by NIA at New Delhi. “All the members expressed their strong resentment and anguish over the continuous summoning of President to the NIA office at Delhi. It was decided that strike shall continue till the President Bar Association returns back from New Delhi,” the spokesman said.
The lawyers of District and Mufassil Bar Associations, they said, also continued their strike and abstained from court work.
The lawyers also staged protest march at High Court as well as from District Court Complex Srinagar, denouncing the continuous harassment of Qayoom.
The Bar Association, the spokesman said, also conducted a remembrance meet in the memory of 13th martyrdom anniversary of Advocate Hussam-ud-din Ahmad, who was martyred on 15th of September 2004 by “enemies of humanity”.
“Advocate Hussam-ud-din Ahmad was also among the founder members of Geelani lead Tehreek-i -hurriyat. He played important role in the ongoing freedom movement and his house was forcibly occupied by (government) forces while was in jail. After his release he along with his family was forced to migrate from Sopore. His role and contributions were lauded his sacrifices in the ongoing freedom movement will be written in golden words,” the spokesman added.
