Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday hailed Amnesty International’s report, seeking ban on use of pellets and impartial investigation into disproportionate use of the munitions by the official and subsequent action against them.
In a statement issued here, Geelani said that it should be an eye opener for India which claims to be a largest democracy of the globe.
The octogenarian leader said that a total ban on the indiscriminate use of pallet guns and other lethal weapons against the human beings, as demanded by the Amnesty International, needs compliance by the men in uniform.
He termed it highly regrettable that these lethal weapons are used against the peaceful protests “organized by the people raising the slogan for right to self-determination since 1947.”
The octogenarian leader also criticized the extension of a judicial remand by two weeks to prolong the “illogical and illegal” detention at Tihar Jail for the veteran and a senior Hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Aslam Wani by NIA.
The pro-freedom leader also condemned the NIA action to summon the Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoum repeatedly at its Delhi office.
He also appealed the UNO and other International Human Rights Organizations to prevail upon the Indian state authorities to shun the “brutal and excessive use of lethal weapons and human rights violations against the peace loving people of Kashmir.”
