Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday said complete response to the strike call given joint resistance leadership against Indian Home Minister’s visit to Kashmir has once again proved that Kashmir was not a law and order issue or an internal matter of New Delhi.
“It is human and political issue which needs to be resolved by accepting its disputed nature and giving the people their promised right to self-determination,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference said.
The Hurriyat Conference also strongly condemned the continuous imposition of curfew and restrictions in downtown and some areas of Srinagar from last three days.
In a statement issued here, a spokesman of the amalgam said that converting the entire region into a military fortress and caging lakhs of people in their own homes causes great distress and hardships to them.
Terming it as ultimate form of State highhandedness, Hurriyat Conference also castigated the government for arbitrary and illegal confinement of its Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani in their own homes and detaining Muhammad Yasin Malik at central jail. “Such moves defy all claims to democracy and are simply revengeful.”
Hurriyat also paid tributes to three militants killed in Sopore and Shopian encounter.
“Kashmiri youth are being sadly being pushed to the wall due to the continued oppression and military approach of New Delhi in dealing with the Kashmir issue forcing young and educated lot to pick up arms as a means of resistance,” Hurriyat said and paid rich tributes to them and expressed sympathy with their families
