Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Thursday ordered government to provide Rs 3.5 lakhs for medical treatment to a kidney failure patient.
Disposing of the plea Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone son of Ghulam Rasool Lone of Gagal Lolab, member SHRC Jung Bahadur Singh Jam’wal recommended Rs.2 lakhs to be provided to home as financial assistance alongwith free medical treatment as well as all the tests being conducted on him.
“The Chief Secretary of J&K State is directed to provide Rs.2 lakhs under the scheme RAN and Rs.1.5 lakh from State Illness Fund.”
Besides, the SHRC directed Director SKIMS Soura Srinagar to direct the Medical Superintendent SKIMS to release the financial assistance to Lone in view of the letter of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India and release the sum of Rs.2 lakhs and provide free check-up and all test facility. The Commission ordered implementation of the judgement within thirty days
Lone in his plea had stated that he is suffering kidney failure and is under the treatment of SKIMS Soura, Srinagar.
“Due to poverty (I’m) not in a position to purchase life-saving drugs from open market and prayed for financial assistant.
The SHRC passed the directions after going through the material available on records including report of Director Health Services, Medical certificate issued by Dr. Mohammad Saleem Najar, Professor and Head Nephrology countersigned by Prof. A.G. Ahanger, Director SKIMS, Soura Srinagar.
