Srinagar: Ruling PDP-BJP government on Thursday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman under house arrest while as it detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Frot (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and lodged him in Srinagar’s central jail.
In a statement, a spokesman of Hurriyat Conference (M) strongly condemned the government decision of confining Mirwaiz to his house, terming “frustration on part of the authorities and acceptance of defeat by the ruling government in J&K.”
A police team reached Abi Guzar office of Yasin Malik and lodged him in central jail.
Malik’s detention and Mirwaiz’s House arrest comes just a day after they announced to march towards the headquarter of National Investigation Agency in Delhi and court arrest there on September 9.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman condemned Malik’s arrest, terming it as the ultimate form of state repression and political vendetta.
He said that these moves are aimed at building pressure on the pro-freedom leaders, choking space for them and keeping them away from their people.
The spokesman also termed the shifting of Batamaloo bus stand to Parimpora and creating problems for transporters and hundreds of shopkeepers a decision in haste and said that the move will hit the livelihood of transporters and shopkeeper.
He said government’s efforts should have been provide relief to the people rather than creating problems for them.
“It is an irony that the government since day one started implementing its anti-people agenda and plunged people of Kashmir into difficulties instead of solving their issues.”
The spokesman extended full support to the call given by the transporters, stating that their issues should be resolved without any further delay.
