Srinagar: The state government on Thursday constituted an empowered committee for  implementation of the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) Plan for the project affected families of Keeru Hydro Electric Project (624 MW), District Kishtwar.
Headed by state’s chief secretary, the Committee shall be serviced by the Department of disaster management, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The Kiru project is being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd, a joint venture among NHPC, J&K State Power Development Corp and Power Trading Corporation of India.
Last year, the environment ministry of government of India gave green nod to the Rs 4,640.88 crore Kiru hydroelectric power project to be developed near village Patharnakki on Chenab river in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.
The project envisages construction of a 123 metre high concrete gravity dam with four intakes, four pressure shafts, an underground powerhouse of four units of 156 mw each to generate 624 mw of hydro power. This is a run-of-the-river scheme.
 The total cost of project is about Rs 4,640.88 crore and is likely to be completed in 54 months.
“The overall benefits of project to the State shall include a share of 49 per cent power from the project besides 12 per cent free power to State and 1 per cent free power towards Local Area Development Fund (LADF),” NHPC had said in a statement.
