Srinagar: As authorities placed chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, the separatist amalgam termed it as “ultimate form of repression and political vendetta.”
A spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference strongly condemned the government’s decision of placing Mirwaiz under house detention once again at his Nigeen to bar him from carrying out “political, social and religious activities.”
It was just five days back, the spokesman said, when Mirwaiz was set free from 57-day long house detention.
“It’s ultimate form of repression and political vendetta. Confining Mirwaiz to his house reflects the oppressive thinking of the government. It once again clearly shows that whenever the government wish and whosoever they wish, can be arrested detained or placed under house arrest. Placing Mirwaiz under house arrest also reflects government’s frustration and paranoia by any activity of the Hurriyat chairman,” the spokesman said.
Though arresting and keeping the pro-freedom leadership under house was nothing new in Kashmir now, the spokesman said that it has become routine and “people of Kashmir understand the iron-fist approach adopted by the government and its forces towards resistance leadership in a bid to silence them and to build pressure on them from raising voice of people.”
“The Stubborn and rigid approach adopted by the government in J&K will neither muzzle nor stop the leadership and people of Kashmir from demanding their birth right, which is right to self-determination,” the spokesman said, adding, “all such repressive measures as in the past will taste defeat.”
Meanwhile, the spokesman strongly condemned the house to house searches in Aribal Tral and “thrashing” of inmates. “Forces are harassing and punishing innocent people under the garb of hunt of armed youth,” the spokesman said and also strongly condemned the use of force and teargas shelling on students of Degree College Anantnag.
The spokesman also expressed sympathy with those whose houses got damaged in the blaze in Dalipora, Pulwama and demanded the immediate rehabilitation of the affected families.
