Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the use of a “Triple talaq “ practice until new legislation is framed by the government.
Triple talaq is a practice by which Muslim men can divorce their wives by uttering the word “talaq” three times.
According to judges the law violated Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
“This is a sensitive case where sentiments are involved. We are directing the Union of India to consider appropriate legislation in this regard,” Justice J.S. Khehar said while announcing a six-month suspension on the practice of the divorce law.
