Srinagar: The floods in Sierra leone has consumed at least 400 lives including almost 100 children while many are still missing.

Reports quoted Elhadj As Sy, secretary-general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies saying, “More than 400 people are dead”,  while Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Geneva has said the number of deaths toll “may rise”.

Those dead include causalities in mudslides on the outskirts of the West African nation’s capital, Freetown, and deaths from flash floods in other provinces, Deputy Health Minister Madina Rahman was quoted by media reports.

China pledged $1m, Togo donated $500,000 aid while Israel and several west African nations too are contributing. Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa
