Srinagar: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday sought a report within four weeks from district authorities on lining up of cars along Jhelum bund near Lal Chowk, the commercial hub of this summer capital, for want of parking space.
Taking note of media report, highlighting damage to the Jhelum bund due to the illegal car parking, chairperson of the SHRC, Justice (retd) Bilal Nazki directed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Municipal Commissioner Srinagar, IGP Traffic Srinagar and Chief Engineer Irrigating and Flood Control Department to file their response to the “serious” matter within four weeks. The case has been listed for hearing on September 20.
The report quoting locals said that the illegally parked vehicles have spoiled the beauty of the bund which is meant for pedestrian and not for the vehicle.
