Srinagar: Former chief minister and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said India faces a threat from “chor” within and that China or Pakistan can cause no harm to New Delhi.
“Today India does not face threat from China or Pakistan. China or Pakistan can cause no harm to us. There is a ‘chor’ (thief) within who is destroying us. Before the fight was against British, today our fight is with our own people,” Farooq Abdullah while addressing a functioning in New Delhi.
“There is no doubt that I am a Muslim and I proudly say I’m an Indian Muslim. If I am asked if you are a Hindustani Muslim, who were those who participated in the freedom struggle of India? Were they not Muslims? The one who chanted slogan of ‘quit India’ before Gandhi was also a Muslim from Mumbai. The one who made the tricolor, our national flag, too was a Muslim woman. Have you forgotten it?” he said.
The 3-time chief minister of the J&K said the Kashmiris chose India over Pakistan during partition because New Delhi guaranteed equality.
“We could have easily gone with Pakistan in 1947 but we decided to stay with India where everyone is treated equal,” Farooq, the incumbent parliamentarian from Srinagar constituency.
