Srinagar: National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah on Saturday accused PDP-BJP government of destroying public institutions in the state by sidelining legal and established recruitment processes. The trend, he said, was marring the merit and leaving future of the youth in hands of “corrupt politicians”.
“Ever since, PDP BJP government came into power, all its ministers including the CM started treating public institutions as their personal fiefdoms. No regard is being given to reputed recruiting institutions such as Public Service Commission, Service Selection Board,” the Working president said at Srinagar.
He said that the incumbent government had gone into an overdrive of dismantling the set selection procedures in various departments thereby promoting unfair practices in government departments. He cited instances of the “shady” recruitments being made by the present regime.
While addressing District committee members from Kupwara and Pulwama at party headquarters Nawa e Subah, Omar said, “Corruption and nepotism has become the order of the day as appointments don’t happen on merit basis anymore but are defined by the influence of the ruling dispensation on officers. This has become a source of discouragement to the hard-working youth of the State and the Chief Minister is herself responsible for bulldozing the state institutions.”
“When our government was in power, we gave due credence to all the set procedures and every recruitment was as per merit. The scenario however has not remained the same and if the trend continues it will do irreplaceable damage to our institutions which will reflect in the way they operate on ground. This government has made state governance a hub of corrupt and shady dealings and autonomous institutions have become overtly anti-youth.”
“For the past three years, right from the time, the alliance of PDP-BJP took over the affairs of the state, youth have been dealing with uncertainty and hopelessness. The PDP-BJP Alliance hasn’t been able to deliver on one single promise that it had made in the ‘Agenda of Alliance’. Development has come to a grinding halt and the prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed. This Government has failed to dispense even its most basic responsibilities”, the NC working president said.
On the occasion General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar expressed grief and sorrow over the spate of civilian killings in the state. He said, “J&K is passing through very volatile times. Not a single day passes without news of civilian deaths and maimings.
Over the past week hundreds of people have been hospitalized after sustaining grievous bullet and pellet injuries and the government of the day is unmoved. The government must rein in the forces and establish a sense of security among Kashmiris which is their primary responsibility.” Later he briefed the working President about the party activities in the districts and gave a preview of the activities to be taken in near future.
Among others who attended the meeting include former MP Shariefudin Shariq, ex MLA Kafeel ur Rehman, District President Kupwara and MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, District President Pulwama Gh Mohiuddin Mir, Secretary to Working President Tanvir Sadiq, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Block Presidents and other office bearers.
