Army orders Court of Inquiry in cops’ thrashing: Police

Srinagar: Days after thrashing of policemen by army soldiers in Ganderbal, police Monday said that army has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the incident.
Inspector General of Police, Munir Khan, said that the army has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the incident.
According to KNS correspondent, Khan was replying to a question by reporters in the incident during a press conference at Police Control Room today.
“Police took cognizance of the matter and then the matter has been taken up with the senior formations of the army up to the Corps Commander of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. The DGP has lodged a very strong protest with the Corps Commander and the Corps Commander has responded quickly and he has ordered a Court of Inquiry,” Khan said.
The IGP said that on the directions of Corps Commander, the concerned army brigade commander, three Sector, the CO, went to the police station after the incident.
“So, all the things have been done whether it was taking cognizance by the police or the action by the army and the things are in process,” the IGP said.
Police said that seven policemen were thrashed and their police station by army soldiers in Gund area of Ganderbal district on Friday night when the police stopped few vehicles in which the army soldiers, in civvies, were travelling from Sonamarg after performing Amarnath Darshan. The cops stopped them at a barricade as no pilgrims are allowed to travel at night because of security reasons. (KNS)
