Youth bringing laurels to JK in sports arena: Abdul Haq

GANDERBAL: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq today said the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is committed to raise sports infrastructure in the state to groom the sports talent and to provide sports facility to youth in every village to showcase her/his talent.
He said this while addressing a gathering of youths after inaugurating a playground in Manigam village of Lar block in Ganderbal district. The playground was constructed at the cost of Rs 54 lakh under MGNREGA in convergence with 13th FC.
Minister said the youths of the state are emerging on the sports arena at national and international level with flying colours and bringing laurels to the state. He said in such scenario, government is duty bound to provide all facilities to the youth and facilitate them in showcasing their talent.
He said youth of the state are bestowed with abundant talent in sports and only need an opportunity to excel while government will take every possible step to facilitate such youth. He said Government will provide all necessary facilities to boost sports infrastructure at par with the international standards.
He said sports is imperative for overall personality development of youth as it helps in inculcating discipline among them and also keeps the body and mind fresh which is important for the youths.
Abdul Haq said the Rural Development Department will build sports infrastructure in rural areas to help youth to showcase their talent. He said Government is making all out efforts to promote sports activities in the State by providing requisite facilities to youth that would provide opportunities to them for honing their talents so that they can compete at national and international level.
He further said that that RDD will assist the State Sports Council for creation of cricket turfs in every village of the state on 60:40 sharing basis wherein the Department will contribute in labour component under MGNREGA.
Later Minister inspected various ongoing works in Lar block and directed officials to expedite work on the projects to complete them within stipulated time.
Abdul Haq directed the officials to maintain transparency in their works and ensure participation of people in decision making by ensuring mass Participation of the locals in Gram Sabhas. While interacting with the people, Minister appealed the locals to act as eyes and ears of the government by keeping watch on the developmental projects to ensure that projects are implemented in letter and spirit.
