Srinagar: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh on Saturday said that the opposition political parties are not against the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) but are playing politics over it.
According to KNS correspondent, Singh said, “We are saying that GST should also be implemented in JK from Jul 01 as its non-implementation can create chaos in the state. Everybody including the opposition is ready for the GST and I have talked to some of the opposition leaders who said that they are not against it,” he said.
“Opposition is not opposing the GST but playing politics over it. Even in the All Party Meeting, they also accept the implementation of GST,” he said.
He said that the Centre is also serious to implement GST across the country. “There is a need to understand GST first. Traders are protesting but they should understand it,” he said, adding that those who are opposing the implementation of GST should come forward to give their suggestions.
He also said that he doesn’t verbalize to pullout from the government in case of non-implementation of GST.
Meanwhile, the All Party Committee, which was formed by the government headed by PDP MP, Muzaffar Hussain Baig regarding the GST held its first meeting today.
However, the opposition National Conference and Congress leaders boycotted the meeting. (KNS)
