Srinagar: Normal life resumed in Kashmir Wednesday after three days of shutdown and curfew-like restrictions following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Bhat in an encounter in Tral on Saturday.
Shops, business units, offices opened today, while traffic was moving normally on major roads in Srinagar and other towns in the Valley. The Srinagar-Jammu highway that was closed on Tuesday in the backdrop of ‘Tral Chalo’ call by resistance leaders, was thrown open today, with hundreds of heavy and light vehicles moving on it.
Mobile pre-paid telephony which was suspended in Kashmir for the last four days was resumed yesterday evening. However, as per KNS correspondent mobile telephony in Tral, Awantipora was suspended today, even as the Tral area observed shutdown today to protest killing of the Sabzar Bhat.
Locals said that the town observed shutdown as “today was the fourth day post- burial” of Sabzar Bhat.
Life in Pulwama disctrict was hit today for the fifth day. Locals in the town told KNS that minor clashes erupted in the morning between stone pelters and forces. “Some youth resorted to stone pelting in the morning and police forces dispersed them by firing teargas and PAVA shells,” an official said.
The official said that the clashes disrupted the normal life in the town forcing shutdown in the whole town, triggering closure of shops and business establishments.
The colleges and schools were closed following the orders of the district administration on Tuesday.
Locals said a Unani chemist, Ghulam Mohiudin Sheikh, was injured when he tried to threw a shell, “fired into his shop by forces”, away from his shop, exploded in his hands near Murran Chowk. Sheikh was rushed to District hospital Pulwama for treatment. “His condition is stable, but doctors fear his fingers have been critically injured,” the locals said.
Meanwhile, four policemen were injured in a grenade blast in Sopore town. Police officials said that militants lobbed a grenade on a police party outside the Sopore police station. “Four policemen were injured in the blast,” the officials said.
Two persons in Baramulla district were injured after unidentified gunmen fired on Abdul Rashid Lone and Tariq Ahmad Lone near their residence in Khanpora on Tuesday night after the duo was coming out of a Majsjid after offering Taraweeh prayers, police officials said.
The injured were shifted to a hospital where the condition is stated to stable, the officials said. Police said that it has registered cases in both the incidents and started investigations. (KNS)
