Srinagar: Two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants including a top commander and a civilian were Saturday killed during an encounter that raged between the force sand militants in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.
The police officials also said that the civilian was killed in the cross firing.
Police officials said that last evening militants fired upon patrolling party of 42-RR at Hurdimir, Soimoh Tral. “The fire was retaliated and the militants took shelter in the nearby houses. Subsequently, a cordon and search operation was launched by the joint team of Awantipora police, 42 RR and 180- BN CRPF. The militants hiding in the houses again opened fire on the joint team, triggering an encounter,” officials said.
They said that in this encounter, two Hizb militants identified as Sabzar Ahmad Bhat alias Abu Zarar and Faizan Muzaffar alias Umair were killed. “Arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site,” they added.
“During the cross firing, one person was injured. He was rushed to the Tral hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being ascertained,” the police officials said. (KNS)
