Human shield row: Budgam man files compliant in SHRC against awarding army Major

Srinagar: The Budgam civilian who was used by an army Major as human shield has filed a complaint in State Human Rights Commission here against the officer being given a Commendation certificate.
An official of SHRC confirmed to KNS that Farooq Ahmed Dar, the resident of Chill village in Budgam has filed the complaint against the army Major being commended with a certificate.
Major Nitin Leetul Gogoi who was awarded by Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) General Bipin Rawat a ‘Commendation Card’ for his “sustained distinguished service” in counter-insurgency operations in here.
Chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir (
IFJHRJK) Muhammad Ahsan Untoo told KNS that he has filed the petition in SHRC under petition number 173/Bud/2017 against Major Gogoi being awarded the certificate.
Untoo said that the he has also filed a petition against three TV News channels for terming Farooq Dar a stone pelter.
“The new channels have defamed Dar by calling him a stone pelter. How can they call anyone stone pelter without evidence,” he said. (KNS)
