Srinagar: Reiterating his appeal to the students not to hit streets, minister for Education Syed Altaf Bukhari Wednesday said that the students falling short of attendance will not be allowed to sit in the examinations.
While addressing an education conclave organized by the private schools at SKICC, Bukhari said that the there will be no reduction in syllabus nor will there be a mass promotion.
“I appeal the students not to take to streets. And if they have any grievances, they can raise them within their school premises. But whence they come on streets, it becomes a law and order issue for security forces who then intervene to restore peace and normalcy,” Bukhari said.
According to KNS correspondent, the minister said that the police has not registered any FIR against the protesting students. “Some students have been detained by police for creating disturbance, and they have been counselled by the police after their parents were called to the police stations,” the minister said.
“We don’t want to spoil the academic career of the students but we need their cooperation in making the education system in Jammu and Kashmir excellent so that they can touch new heights and goals in their life,” he said.
The minister warned that those students who fall short of attendance will not be allowed to sit in the exams and ruled out any mass promotion by the government for them.
About the protests, the minister said that he was surprised and does not understand why the students protest. “There was an incident in Government Degree College where action was taken against the police officials. But now why are the students protesting, I do not understand. I appeal to them not to be misused by few elements for their vested interests,” he said.
The minister lauded the former education minister Naeem Akhtar for taking steps to improve the education system in the state.
“But some decisions evoked outrage because I know all the decisions taken by any minister or government are not considered well by the people,” he said.
The minister said that the government is working to improve the education system in the state and discussing about measures to streamline private school and tuition system in the state.
