Srinagar: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Munir Ahmad Khan on Tuesday said that the NIA team, which is currently in the Valley interrogating some separatists for allegedly taking money for fuelling protests, has not approached them so far.
“In case they (NIA) approach us for assistance, we will consider and help them accordingly,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir according to KNS correspondent, told reporters on the sidelines of the functions in north Kashmir.
Khan disclosed that 90 militants are currently active in northern parts of Kashmir and they will be tackled.
The IGP also said that the police has not withdrawn FIR against the army major who is accused of using a civilian as human shield in Budgam during polling day in April.
“The investigation in this regard will carry on and the FIR against the Army major has not been quashed,” Khan who was touring northern parts of Kashmir, said.
Khan, who had meetings with police and people in Sopore and Baramulla district, was reacting to a query whether police would continue the investigation as the accused army major was awarded as the commendation card by the Army Chief, Bipin Rawat.
The FIR against the Army officer was lodged after he tied a Budgam youth with the bonnet of the Army jeep on Srinagar by-poll day.
Khan appealed the students to end the protests and focus on their education. “Education is imperative for all. Students must not waste their precious time as the education is must for everyone whether one wants to become a doctor, engineer or a businessman,” he said.
“I appeal to the parents and teachers to counsel the students properly so that they can join concentrate on their academics,” he said, adding that students should also resume their classes. (KNS)
