Srinagar: PDP Tuesday said that honoring the army major who has violated human rights by using a civilian as human shield “is not proper” and said that the State government wants the incident to be investigated.
“If the government forces violate human rights, action should be taken in such cases. State government’s stand is clear that the incident should be investigated. PDP’s stand is that such incidents are bad in public perception and should be probed. If he (Army Major) has been rewarded for this bravado, I don’t feel this is proper,” PDP General Secretary Nizamudin Bhat told reporters during a seminar on Kashmir at a hotel here.
Bhat spoke on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the O P Shah’s Centre for Peace and Progress at Grand Mumtaz hotel here.
The PDP leader said that Kashmir is not that easy which will be resolved through seminars or discussions. “There is no dearth of ideas on Kashmir. For resolution of Kashmir issue, there has to be political will between India and Pakistan and the Kashmiri leadership should come to a consensus and a bottom-line which will ultimately show the way,” he said.
He said that the period between 2002 and 2005 is the glorious period in Kashmir history which had “shown way for solution”.
“There was peace, trade was going on, and borders were calm; there was bonhomie with Pakistan, there was notional integration, and roads were opened. Till those measures and initiatives are retrieved, I don’t think we can create an atmosphere to reach a solution.”
On the prevailing situation, he said that things are getting normal. “Protest is a right. No protests, if prolonged, can get us anything. It becomes violence, social evil and disturbs peace, destroys society.”
Senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz said that Army General has awarded the army Major for using a civilian as a human shield is a “very bad thing to happen”.
“Civil society in India is angry over it,” Soz said.
He said that there is writing is on the wall in Kashmir and Delhi is getting late, they will feel its repercussions.
“PM Modi must resolve the Kashmir issue by dialogue, else he will get late. Hurriyat is available for dialogue,” he said.
On the prevailing situation, Soz said that “It is a revolt. Students and youth are protesting. Kashmir will not relent by military solution.” (KNS)
