Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar Tuesday sad that BJP government should talk to everyone in Kashmir as enduring solutions would come only through dialogue.
He said that if BJP government is willing to talk with armed rebels in Nagaland, why are they reluctant to talk with people in Kashmir.
“The Government of India should start dialogue with all stakeholders. India should hold a dialogue with Pakistan and people in Kashmir. Dialogue will reduce the tension between India and Pakistan and will calm prevailing situation in Kashmir,” Aiyar told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the O P Shah’s Centre for Peace and Progress at Grand Mumtaz hotel here, as per KNS correspondent.
“BJP should talk to everyone, even with the gunmen in Kashmir, stone pelters and all the elements in Kashmir. Enduring solutions would come only through dialogue. You should talk to everybody, because when you stop talking, then guns do the talking,” he said.
He said rewarding an army official with a certificate who used a civilian as human shield at this time was not right.
“I think, rewarding the army Major with a certificate at this time is not appropriate time as it will increase tension in Kashmir,” Aiyar said.
“(Ex-Army General Panag had said that the major had not done right thing. He certainly may have done better things than this,” he said.
Asked why Congress could not resolve the Kashmir issue during its governments, he said that Congress has made mistakes in the past.
“Kashmiri governments have made mistakes. But we need to move ahead and resolve all issues through dialogue,” he said.
Over the remarks of BJP president Amit Shah that only three districts in Kashmir are protesting, the Congress leader said that Britishers had made similar claims during the freedom movement that only three district in India were protesting against the Britishers like BJP President Amit Shah has said.
“What Amit Shah is saying that Kashmir problem is only in three district and rest is ok that is totally wrong,” Aiyer said. (KNS)
