An official told KNO that students were taking classes outside when the branch suddenly fell on them. “A fourth-grade primary student Hazik Fayaz son of Fayaz Ahmad Ganie and a teacher Mukhtar Ahmad Wani have received injuries,” he said.

He said the student has received grievous injuries and has been shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment, while the teacher is stable.

A teacher at the school told KNO that despite many representations to higher authorities for the sanction of a school building, nothing has been done to date.

He said the school has 80 students enrolled, but it has only three rooms, including the office. “We had been anticipating this incident in absence of proper space. We urge the administration to address the matter.”

Locals said that due to the unavailability of space inside the school, students are forced to study in the open. “Our children are not safe. We request DESK for intervention,” they said.
