Dr. Rohan Gupta, Consultant ENT who performed the surgeries, under the guidance of Dr. Sunil Kotwal, shared that sustained awareness campaigns launched by Hospital in various areas of the region were a prelude to the actual performance of cochlear surgeries.

He added that 7 surgeries performed on the instant occasion synchronized with World Hearing day (3rd March) and were completely successful in terms of envisaged outcome.

With these surgeries performed in March, 2024, the SMVDNSH has landed in the elite territory of few selected Hospitals of the Country who have achieved this rare milestone.

Mathvan, Facility Director of Hospital sated that this achievement is a result of tremendous over the years support of the Shrine Board (29 of the 50 surgeries including 6 instant surgeries in reference have been sponsored by the Board). Besides, these are also an indicative of high level clinical expertise and patient care, for which the Hospital is known in the entire region.

Dr. Rohan Gupta also shared that despite lack of awareness, misconception and other challenges specifically associated with our region, in the last 6 months alone, as many as 4 Bilateral CI surgeries have been performed by him (a few of which posed lot of clinical challenges). The fact that parents have now started approaching in vis-a-vis larger numbers is reflective of a definite improvement in the mindsets prevalent hitherto before.

The marketing team of Shrine Board’s Hospital has been making yeoman efforts for quite some time to sensitize the parents about debilitating effect of hearing loss on overall development of an individual; pleading them to avail treatment at young age of the child.
