A police officer said that both the killed militants were categorized and associated with JeM.

He identified them as Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora and Mohammad Asif Wani alias Yawar of Takia Gopalpora Kulgam.

“From their possession two AK rifles and ammunition have been recovered,” the top cop added.

Earlier, police said, the encounter ensued after a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area amid specific information about the presence of the militants.

As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, police said, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off the gunfight. This was the second gunfight in the district within less than 24 hours with the previous one at Batpora village leading to the killing of a militant who according to police was a Pakistani and identified as Abu Hurara.
