Srinagar, Aug 21: Rain, most lately last evening, brought down minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir with mercury settling below 2.5°C in Gulmarg on Sunday.

The weatherman has also forecast scattered light rain and thunderstorms over J&K in the next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official here said that isolated to scattered light to moderate rain and thunderstorms was expected in the next 24 hours.

In last 24 hours till 0830 a.m., Katra received highest rainfall of 70.2mm followed by Pahalgam with 5.9mm, Gulmarg 5.2mm, Kathua 2.8mm, Kupwara 5.2mm, Srinagar 0.6mm, qazigund 0.4mm and 0.2mm in Kukernag and Banihal.

Regarding minimum temperature, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of 16.9°C against 21.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C below normal during this time of the year for the summer capital, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 15.6°C against 18.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 11.8°C against 16.3°C on the previous night and it was 0.4°C below normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 13.5°C against 17.5°C the previous night and it was 1.6°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 9.2°C against 11.5°C on the previous night. It was 2.5°C below normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 16.6°C against 16.1°C on previous night and it is 0.5°C above normal for the place during this time of the season, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 23.5°C against 26.7°C on the previous night. It was 1.3°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 15.0°C, Batote 16.0°C, Katra 20.5°C and Bhadarwah 16.4°C.
