Parts Of Kashmir Receive Rains Amid Erratic Weather Forecast

Srinagar, May 6: Amid forecast for erratic weather this week, parts of Kashmir Valley including Gulmarg received rainfall, officials said on Wednesday.

A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 12.6°C against 13.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.9°C above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K where traces of rain was recorded in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 10.8°C against previous night’s 11.2°C and it was above normal by 2.7°C in the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said. It received 3.2mm of the rain during the time, he said.

Mercury settled at 9.0°C against 7.0°C on the previous night in Pahalgam which has traces of rain during the time. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for the time of the season in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir, he said.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, had 6.4mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 9.4°C against normal of 9.3°C, the official said.

Kupwara received 6.0mm of rain and recorded a low of 11.2°C against 10.1°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 2.8°C for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, received 22.4mm of rain during the 24 hours and recorded a low of 4.6°C against 7.2°C on the previous night, the official said.  It was 0.3°C above normal in the resort, the official added.

“Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain/thunder (is expected) in Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours,” the official said. Regarding the forecast for next two days, he said, “Scattered to fairly widespread light rain/thundershowers are expected in J&K.”
