Srinagar, Dec 26: The overnight gunfight in Shopian district of south Kashmir ended on Saturday with the killing of two militants and injuries to as many soldiers.
A senior Police officer said that one more militant was killed in the gunfight a short while ago and the body recovered. However, he said, identity of both the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Officer said that operation was suspended late night due to darkness and resumed this morning.
Two army soldiers were also injured as militants tried to break the cordon.
Earlier, a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kanigam amid specific inputs about the presence of the militants.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off the gunfight.
