Covid-19 Claims Two More Lives, J&K Toll 135

Srinagar, Aug 3: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reported 13 more deaths due to covid-19 in last 24 hours, taking the fatality count due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 409.
Official sources said that six among those who lost their lives belonged to Srinagar, two each to Anantnag and Jammu besides one each to Ganderbal and Baramulla and Pulwama.
Three of the deaths were reported from SKIMS Soura and include 85-year-old man from Safakadal Srinagar, 62-year-old from Nawa Bazar Srinagar and a 75-year-old from Pulwama district.
At SMHS hospital, a 68-year-old from downtown Srinagar died this evening. “He was suffering from Pneumonia and was put on ventilator,” a doctor at the hospital said.
Regarding two deaths at Jammu, they said, one of them, a 60-year-old man from Simbal Morh in Miran Sahib area of Jammu tested positive last evening, nearly 24 hours after his death in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. The other, they said, was 82- year-old woman from R S Pura area who was admitted to the hospital on July 28.
Meanwhile, two persons from Anantnag died due to virus and included a 65-year-old from SK colony area of the south Kashmir district.
Regarding the sexagenarian from SK Colony, they said, she was diabetic, hypertensive and had bilateral pneumonia. She passed away at SMHS hospital here, they added.
Regarding the victim from Baramulla, they said a 65-year-old man was from New Colony Sopore who died at Sub District hospital Sopore in the north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The elderly had tested positive after his rapid antigen test was done at Bandipora on July 31, they said.
“Today morning the man was shifted to SDH Sopore with spO2 below 70. He was gasping and breathed his last,” they said, adding, “ The patient was having co-morbidities with Hypertension and type 2 diabetes.” Also a patient from Rawalpora Srinagar died due to the virus in a hospital here, officials said.
So far 378 deaths have been reported in Kashmir and 30 in Jammu division. Srinagar district with 136 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (72), Kulgam (29), Budgam (28), Anantnag (26), Shopian (23), Pulwama (23), Kupwara (21), Jammu (21), Bandipora (14), Ganderbal (7), two each in Rajouri and Doda and one each in Ramban , Poonch, Udhampur, and Kathua.
