Samoon discusses implementation of Education Investment Policy-2020 with stakeholders

SRINAGAR, JUNE 10: Principal Secretary School Education, Dr Asgar Samoon today chaired a multi stakeholder meeting here regarding the implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Education Investment Policy-2020.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the universities, colleges, IIT’s, IIM’s education department, private stakeholders and other officers.
The meeting was held to provide inputs, feedback and suggestions for implementation of Education Investment Policy 2020 in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Principal Secretary directed the concerned to mobilize financial assets for establishing private universities in Jammu and Kashmir and the government would be incentivizing those under certain guidelines.
Dr. Samoon said that there is a scope to establish foreign universities for which there is a need to attract the investors for establishment of these private universities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Principal Secretary also directed the various stakeholders to come up with suggestions for ensuring the implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Education Investment Policy 2020.
He said that universities have a great role to play in skill development and the need of the hour is to work in tandem with the industrial demand. He further directed the concerned authorities to conduct investment workshops to attract investors.
Dr. Samoon reiterated his call that that there will be a ‘Single Window Clearance Body’ for granting time bound approvals and clearances for setting up of new private schools/ residential schools / colleges/technical education institutes/ universities.
Laying emphasis on the importance of education, Principal Secretary said that one should think globally when talking about education and said that government is taking several initiatives in this regard. He said that the government is committed to make systemic reforms in the education sector besides infrastructure and other developments.
He said that there is a need for mainstreaming the vocational educational system and provide skills that are appropriate for today’s world besides being able to generate lucrative jobs for the youth.
During the meeting, the Principal Secretary also sought suggestions from the stakeholders how they can help in community schooling to compensate for the time lost due to corona virus pandemic, while at the same time observing all the healthcare guidelines.
The Principal Secretary also laid emphasis on the imparting of good quality education at the basic level and directed the concerned to adopt good strategy that can help in demonstration and implementation of good models. He also asked the University authorities to adopt government schools in their vicinity for mentoring.
Dr. Samoon said that it is a broad consultation process and we would like to learn from various counter parts of the country that have made a great transformation in government schools.

JAMMU, JUNE 10: District Magistrate, Jammu, today prohibited the movement of individuals for all non-essential activities between 8 pm to 5 am in the territorial limits of district Jammu.

“I, Sushma Chauhan, District Magistrate, Jammu, vide powers conferred upon me under section 144 of CrPC read with relevant provisions under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management Act. 2005, do hereby restrict the movement of individuals for all Non-Essential Activities between 8 pm to 5pm in the territorial limits of district Jammu” an order issued by DM stated.

It further stated that “Since, it is not possible to serve prior notice of this order, it is as such being issued ex-pane. Any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management. Act, 2005.”

The order has been issued in connection with the guidelines and instructions issued by State Executive Committee of Department of Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction for regulating the activities within the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir for effective containment of COV1D-19 w.e.f 8th June, 2020 till further order.
