Srinagar: In a major incident, a truck carrying LPG cylinders caught fire, resulting in a series of blasts on Jammu-Srinagar Highway near Tikri Udhampur on Friday.
Officials said that the truck, on way from Jammu to Srinagar, was parked on the highway side when it suddenly caught fire.
“Before fire tenders could reach the spot, the LPG cylinders caught fire and started to explode,” they said, adding that in half an hour, dozens of cylinders exploded, rattling the entire area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that while cylinders and truck were damaged, there was no loss of life as the fire was brought under control.
SSP said vehicular movement on the thoroughfare was suspended temporarily and shall be restored soon.
