Srinagar: Kashmir University students Tuesday protested in the campus during the visit of the Governor, N N Vohra’s to the varsity. The students held the protest against the killing of civilians, militants during the last few months.
Holding placards, the students assembled outside the Institute of Kashmir Studies and shouted slogans against the recent civilian and militants killings. The students raised pro-freedom slogans.
Students said they raised slogans in favour of the resistance leadership and pledged to continue their support to the leadership.
A student said that since the governor is the direct emissary of the government of India in Jammu and Kashmir, therefore,
“We assembled here and protested to aware the governor, being the direct emissary of the government of India in Jammu and Kashmir, about the human rights violations, killings, tortures by government forces in Kashmir,” a student told KNS on condition of anonymity.
Later, the protesting students dispersed peacefully when the Governor left.
The Governor, who is the Chancellor of the University, was on visit to the university laid the foundation stone of New Administrative Block and a Laboratory Block at the Main Campus and visited the Health Club of the University. He also inaugurated two blocks of the Sheikh-ul-Alam Boys Hostel at University’s Zakura Campus.
Vohra who is the Chairman of Governing Body of IKS held interactions with the research scholars and the Faculty, emphasized the need for making the Institute a vibrant centre of excellence. (KNS)
