Kashmir sees cooler nights ; MeT forecasts ‘occasional’ thunderstorm, shorter-duration showers for 1 week

Srinagar: Most of the places including this summer capital of the state in Kashmir witnessed below normal night temperature even as weatherman forecast occasional thunderstorm and shorter duration showers in next one week in the Valley.
According to a meteorological department official, temperature in Srinagar last night recorded at 15.8 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees Celsius below the normal for this time of the year. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, witnessed a low of 14.0 against 14.3 degrees Celsius, Kupwara recorded a minimum of 13.4 against normal of 14.1 degrees Celsius , Kokernag 13.2 against normal of 14.1 degrees Celsius while Gulmarg saw night temperature of 9 against 10.2 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, the world famous hill resort which also serves as base-camp for Amarnathji Yatra witness above normal night temperature of 11.6 against 9.1 degrees Celsius, the MeT official added.
Meanwhile weatherman forecast relief from scorching heat wave in Jammu for Kashmir it predicted occasional thunderstorm and showers last for smaller duration.
“Weather is most likely to remain generally cloudy throughout the state with light rain at isolated pockets of Ladakh and Jammu region and scattered places of Kashmir,” Director Meteorological department Sonam Lotus said. “There would be relief from heat for Jammu region. There’s no forecast of any major rainfall for next 1 week although occasional thunderstorm with shower lasting for short time may occur sometime,” he added.
