Srinagar: The illegal car parking outside Directorate of School Education Kashmir office here at Samandar Bagh is leading to frequent traffic jam in the area, thereby causing immense hardships to the people especially commuters.

The commuters are seen occupying the main roads outside the office for the whole day while the officials act as mute spectators over it.

Accusing the higher authorities of ignoring their plights, the commuters as well as the officials working in the department here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievance.

Speaking to The INS, an official of the education department said, “Despite tall claims of the authorities that they are seizing vehicles in large numbers, the illegal car parking continue to haunt people outside the office premises.”

He said that the order was recently made public by the authorities that nobody will be allowed to park their cars in and around the commercial hub Lal Chowk and strict action will be taken against norm violator, official said that the vehicles in large numbers are being parked outside the office here since the time authorities issued notice. “I believe that with the failure of the traffic department to put a curb on the norm violators, the officials are not paying heed over their own issued circular,” he said.

He further said that if the department has issued a notice in this regard then why the authorities are showing reluctance to take strict action against the norm violators.

Hamid Rather, a commuter said that how come the state administration allow these vehicles to stay at the same place for a whole day when it creates teething troubles to the vehicular movements as well as the shoppers who visit their shops.

“With the illegal car parking, the traffic jams at the same place is on rise on the city roads,” Rather said.

He further added that despite the road width is already less, the couple of cars can cause traffic jams but almost more than fifty cars are being parked by the people thereby resulting in unending traffic jams.

Inhabitants living around the education department also said that they are fed up with such occupancy of roads and said, “We have to tailor our programme of meetings or joining offices accordingly. The traffic jams disrupts all the programme schedules of the day.”

“Due to the presence of these vehicles which have been illegally parked here we face immense hardships to walk on the roads. This poses risk of accidents,” Ali Muhammad, a local inhabitant said.

“We appeal the concern authorities to take action against the persons who are illegally parking their vehicles at the same point. This will not only help to facilitate smooth vehicular traffic but also will help commuters,” he added.

The commuters appealed higher ups to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest.
