Srinagar: A policeman was killed and at least fifteen other persons, part of parliamentary elections, were injured in two separate road mishaps, one of them allegedly caused by stone pelting, in Kokernag area of this south Kashmir district on Tuesday.
Reports said that two accidents took place at Zalangam and Sagam areas of Kokernag this late afternoon. A Zalangam, speeding vehicle carrying the poll staff turned turtle, resulting in the injuries to those on-board it. The injured were shifted to sub district hospital Kokernag from where three of the critically wounded persons—one of them policeman Hilal Ahmad Khan of Tral Pulwama and two CRPF personnel, were shifted to district hospital Anantnag. Medical Superintendent Anantnag told INS that the one of them was brought dead while others were admitted and are undergoing treatment. The deceased, a policeman, has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Khan. Earlier there was confusion about the identity of the deceased and initial reports suggested that he was a civilian driver, the sources said.
Separately, another vehicle, part of the election process, came under stone pelting by youth near Sagam area and several employees and CRPF men on-board it were injured and shifted to SDH Kokernag. In both the accidents, fifteen persons were injured, BMO Kokernag said.
