Srinagar: The residents of Batapora area of Zakura in Srinagar outskirts here have expressed resentment against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to repair the defunct water pipeline.

Talking to INS, inhabitants said that they are not getting water supply from last two months, thus leaving them to lurch at large.

They said water supply pipeline in their area was lying defunct following which the authorities concerned assured that the pipeline will be repaired but unfortunately ‘the promises proved futile on ground’. “We were getting impure water supply since long due to defunct water pipeline but now we are being deprived of that too,” they added.

Inhabitants added that they are being forced to face hardships by depriving them of water supply, adding that authorities must take steps to ensure the water supply is restored at an earliest so that the residents could heave a sigh of relief.

They urged the PHE higher ups to look into the matter and fulfill their demands.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer PHE, Abdul Wahid while talking to INS said that he has no information in this regard but will look into the matter and ensure that demands of residents are fulfilled.

However, Exen PHE Ganderbal, Nazir Ahmad Dar told INS that the sewage in the pipeline was blocking the water, therefore it was decided that the fresh pipelines be installed so that residents will get pure water.

“The work is on in this regard and it will take two more days to restore the water supply fully,” Dar added.
